Flash CS3 AS2.0 need help with link from movieclip to scene

I am working on a portfolio on flash and I've run into a problem. I am still new at flash so I beg of anyone who is going to attempt to help me to please have patients with me.

Okay, what I have done is create a scroll pane then have some thumbnails that I set as buttons load into the scroll pane. This has worked fine, the buttons' roll over and down animations work. But when I tell the button to gotoAndPlay ("Scene 1", 130); it doesn't respond when I test the movie. I've also tried labeling the frame and that hasn't worked either.

Keep in mind I am using Action script 2.0, I don't really know 3.0 and I started this portfolio a long time ago and am almost done.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I've done searches online but so far have not found anything that has worked.

That is because the scope of the buttons by default is local and targeting itself.

So if you adjust the scope of the buttons to _parent.gotoAndPlay(13);

it will adjust the timeline for the ScrollPane accordingly to frame 13, for example.

If you wish to target the main timeline, you'd use _root.gotoAndPlay(13);

I haven't worked in AS2.0 in a while, but I believe that's the correct syntax. There is a target icon in the ActionsScript panel that will automatically fill it out for you if you don't understand.

Thank you Allariele, this worked. I ran into another problem with the scroll pane but I think this was caused by key frames being too close together so just putting in some frames should fix it. I'm almost done now, just need to create a new resume and resume section to be posted and add a few more links and it'll be ready for posting. After I post it though I plan to tweak it a bit with a few better links and buttons and some easter eggs. Once that's all done I'm going to then try learning AS 3.0 and work on an updated version of the portfolio with better graphics and samples.
